What your scalp looks like — day by day

Day 1–3: Small scabs at each graft site. Mild redness. Some forehead swelling (resolves by Day 4–5). A loose hat covers everything.

Day 4–7: Scabs drying and hardening. Redness reducing. Donor zone healing. Most patients comfortable in a hat.

Day 8–12: Scabs begin to shed naturally during gentle washing. By Day 12, most patients are essentially scab-free.

Day 14+: Mild pinkness remaining in recipient zone (resolves over next 2–4 weeks for most patients). No scabs. Donor zone fully healed. Normal short haircut is possible.

Practical tips for returning to work

A loose, light hat (not tight or friction-creating) covers the recipient zone from Day 1 and is socially acceptable in virtually all office environments. Avoid caps that press on the recipient zone for the first 2 weeks.

When Can I Work After Hair Transplant Recovery — Hairmedico Istanbul
Hairmedico Istanbul — Post-operative scalp care and recovery protocol

Hairmedico provides a soft post-operative headband that protects the donor zone without pressing on the recipient zone for the first 48 hours. The post-operative day starts with a clinic visit for the first wash — most patients feel significantly better after this.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days off work do I need after hair transplant?+

For desk jobs and office work: 5–7 days is typically sufficient. For physical or outdoor work: 10–14 days minimum. Remote work from Day 3 is possible in many cases.

What does the scalp look like when returning to work?+

At Day 7: small scabs visible in recipient zone, mild redness, donor zone healing. A loose hat is acceptable and discreet. By Day 14: scabs shed, most redness resolved. Most colleagues would not notice the procedure.

Can I work from home the day after hair transplant?+

Technically yes — there is no medical restriction on sedentary activity from Day 2 onwards. Most patients feel comfortable working from home by Day 2–3. Avoid video calls without a hat until Day 10–14.
