FUE vs DHI 2025 --
Which Technique Is Right for You?

FUE vs DHI Hair Transplant — Which Technique

What they share

Identical extraction phase: micro-punch device removes individual follicular units from donor area. Neither leaves a linear scar. Both performed under local anaesthetic in a single day. Same recovery timeline. The difference is entirely in the implantation phase.

Hairmedico Istanbul — Hair follicle trichoscopy and donor density analysis

The critical difference

FUE: surgeon creates channels first, then grafts are inserted separately. DHI: Choi Implanter Pen creates channel and places graft simultaneously - no pre-made channels. The pen allows precise control over depth, angle and direction at each individual placement point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FUE and DHI hair transplant?

FUE pre-creates channels in the recipient zone before inserting grafts. DHI uses a Choi implanter pen that creates the channel and places the graft simultaneously. DHI offers superior angle precision and is preferred for unshaved procedures, women, and high-density hairlines.

Which technique is better — FUE or DHI?

Neither is universally better. FUE is faster for large sessions (3,000+ grafts) and fully bald zones. DHI is better where existing hair must be preserved, for unshaved procedures, and for precise hairline density. Dr. Arslan selects the technique based on each patient's specific case.

Is DHI more expensive than FUE?

At Hairmedico, FUE and DHI are priced identically per graft count. Dr. Arslan recommends the optimal technique at consultation without any financial bias toward either option.

Can FUE and DHI be combined in one session?

Yes. A hybrid approach using DHI for the hairline zone and FUE for the mid-scalp and crown is often optimal — combining hairline precision with large-session efficiency. Dr. Arslan applies this hybrid when case anatomy warrants it.

What is Sapphire FUE?

Sapphire FUE uses blades tipped with synthetic sapphire rather than surgical steel to create recipient channels. Sapphire blades are harder, sharper and maintain their edge longer, producing finer channels, less tissue trauma and faster healing.
