The first 10 days — no styling at all

During the first 10 days after Afro hair transplant surgery, the recipient zone contains grafts that are not yet anchored. They can be dislodged by touch, friction, hat pressure or any form of styling manipulation. The rule is simple: do not touch the recipient zone for 10 days. No hats over the transplanted area, no brushing, no styling.

The donor zone at the back of the scalp has small extraction scabs that should similarly not be disturbed. Gentle washing with the provided aftercare shampoo using a diluted foam (not direct water pressure) begins on Day 2.

Dr. Arslan Musbeh — Afro & Textured Hair Expert
Dr. Arslan Musbeh has treated patients with Afro-textured, Type 3C–4C and tightly coiled hair from West Africa, Central Africa, the UK, France and the Caribbean. His adapted FUE technique accounts for the C-shaped follicle curvature unique to Afro hair — minimising transection rates that conventional punches cannot avoid. As a FUE Europe Full Member with 17+ years and 4,500+ personal cases, Dr. Arslan is one of the few Istanbul surgeons with documented expertise specifically in Afro-textured hair restoration.

Weeks 2–6 — shock loss phase

Between weeks 2 and 6, the transplanted hairs shed. This is the shock loss phase — entirely normal, and not a reason to worry. The follicles remain alive beneath the surface.

During this phase, very gentle handling is possible — you can gently wash and lightly moisturise the scalp. No tension, no tight styles, no extensions, no weaves.

Months 3–6 — gradual return to styling

By month 3, new growth is beginning to emerge. The follicles are increasingly well-anchored. Light protective styling — loose, low-tension braids or twists — may be possible from month 4–5 with Dr. Arslan's specific approval following a photograph review.

Weaves, extensions and styles involving significant tension should be avoided until month 6. At that point, the grafts are sufficiently integrated to tolerate moderate styling.

Month 6+ — full return to protective styles

From month 6, most patients can return to their preferred protective styles with appropriate care. The key permanent change: the transplanted zone should not be subjected to the same sustained heavy tension that caused any prior traction alopecia. This means: lighter braids, shorter wear periods, no tight ponytails or heavy extensions directly over the transplanted hairline.

Dr. Arslan discusses hairstyling modifications with every Afro female patient as part of the post-operative consultation — to ensure the surgical result is protected over the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recovery time after hair transplant?

Desk work: 5–7 days. Physical work: 14 days. Gym: 21 days. Scabs shed by Day 10–14. Most colleagues would not notice the procedure by Day 14. Full visual recovery (no redness, no scabs) is complete by 3–4 weeks.

What is shock loss after hair transplant?

Shock loss is the temporary shedding of transplanted hairs 2–6 weeks after surgery. The follicle enters telogen (resting phase) due to surgical trauma and sheds the hair shaft. The follicle remains alive and regrows from month 3–4. Shock loss is normal and universal.

When does transplanted hair start growing?

New growth typically begins at months 3–5. Month 6: 40–60% of final density visible. Month 9–10: 80–85%. Final result: months 12–14. The dormant phase (months 1–3) is normal and expected — not a sign of failure.

Can I exercise after a hair transplant?

Light walking is fine from Day 2. Gym and cardio: wait 21 days (sweat and elevated blood pressure risk graft damage). Contact sports: 30 days minimum. Swimming: 4 weeks (chlorine and immersion risk during early healing).

How do I wash my hair after a hair transplant?

Day 2: first wash at clinic with Hairmedico team. Days 3–14: dilute LOREW Paris shampoo in cup of water, pour gently over recipient zone, no rubbing. Let foam sit 2 minutes. Rinse with gentle low-pressure water. Pat dry — no rubbing. From Day 15: gentle normal washing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost in Turkey?

Hairmedico all-inclusive: price on request for 2,000–3,500 grafts including surgery, 5-star hotel, transfers, PRP and 12-month follow-up.

Is hair transplant permanent?

Yes. Transplanted follicles are DHT-resistant and grow permanently for the patient's lifetime.

What is the recovery time?

Desk work: 5–7 days. Scabs shed by Day 10–14. New growth from months 3–5. Final result months 12–14.

Who performs surgery at Hairmedico?

Dr. Arslan Musbeh personally — every extraction, every channel, every graft. One patient per day.

Is Turkey safe for hair transplant?

Yes, with an accredited surgeon-led clinic. Verify FUE Europe membership, Ministry of Health registration, and confirm the surgeon personally operates.
